Ratsstube

While pork knuckles and mixed sausage platters complete with sauerkraut and mashed tatties appear to be ubiquitous in Chiang Mai’s many pubs and restaurants, Ratsstube reminds us what authentic and seriously great German food tastes like by elevating these dishes, and so many more, with quality ingredients and simple good cooking. The restaurant near Meechok Plaza, a branch of the famous Bangkok Ratsstube, has recently opened and is gaining ground through word of mouth of its impressed diners. Try the beef rolls with mashed potatoes, pork chop with champignon wine sauce, mammoth mixed sausage platter, vol-au-vent Swiss potted chicken pie and all sorts of other goodies from schnitzels to stroganoff. Portions are huge, prices are reasonable (mains hover around the 250-300 baht range), and the taste is on point!
