The 75th Indian Republic Day at the Indian Consulate

Consulate of India celebrated 75th Republic Day with a well attended colourful ceremony which was an event open for the Indian diaspora, alumni and friends of India. Consul Krishna Chaitanya unfurled the National Flag of India and read out President Draupadi Murmu’s message to the Nation.
Consul Krishna Chaitanya presented a set of Indian musical instruments to Bharatvidya Division of the Faculty of Humanities in Chiangmai University (CMU), gifted by the Ambassador of India Nagesh Singh. Students of Bharatavidya came up with an impressive rendition of songs in Hindi. Dr Kanjana Singh of CMU and Dr Prakash Murgeppa Bhuyar, Director of the International Industry and Agriculture Innovation Research Centre of Maejo University were presented Freedom Fighter Lal Singh Pandhi (Bhatia) Medal for their higher research. Dr Kanjana Singh for her work in exploring anti-cancer properties of green tea and turmeric and Dr Prakash for his work in the field of biotechnology, renewable energy and
sustainable agriculture. Students associated with Muang Chiangmai Cultural Association were awarded Consul’s Certificates in appreciation of their contribution during Loy Krathong Parade. Lecturer in Bharatavidya Division, CMU Dr Dipti Sharma conducted the proceedings. She announced the donations received by Bharatvidya from the community, including one of 100,000 Bhat by Dr Sharin Bhatia. Sangam Kothari and Kanwar Deep Singh Kukreja were presented Letter of Appreciation by the Head of Bharatavidya Division Dr Seksan Sawangsiri for their contribution to the development fund of the Division.

Accha Authentic Indian Cuisine and Chai N Thai served a variety of dishes from different parts of India while Fine August – a Chiangmai based company producing variety of tea with flavours from different states of India served Tea.
