Local media were invited to inspect the recently opened ‘Billy Café & Teresa Teng’ in Mae Hia district, Chiang Mai. On the ground floor there is a tea shop dedicated to Teresa Teng: open every day from 11am – 6pm, with Mae Salong tea set buffet featuring Thai delights served with tea, unlimited for 90 minutes for 900 THB per person. Guests can enjoy the music of Teresa Teng, with karaoke and video recordings available. Upstairs there is the Teresa Teng Chinese restaurant open upstairs 10am – 11pm featuring some of Teresa Teng’s favorite dishes Teresa Teng was a Taiwanese singer and a cultural icon in the 1970’s and 1980’s and remained popular up until her death in 1975. Many people regard her  as one of the greatest and most influential singers in Asian recording history. When visiting Chiang Mai in the 1990’s she used to stay at the Imperial Mae Ping and Billy, who worked at the hotel in those days. used be tasked with looking after her; hence the connection between them both and the reason for the café/restaurant.
