The Tourism Authority of Thailand (T.A.T.) in collaboration with Chiang Mai Province presented the “Open Chiang Mai to the Next Pages” as the launch of reopening the tourism season in this charming city again, starting from today. The event was held at the Green Valley Golf Club. 

The Royal Thai Government has set two stimulus campaigns, “Rao Thiao Duai Kan” (We Travel Together) and “Tour Thiao Thai” with registration for the travel period from 15 October, the start of the high season in Thailand. The third-phase extension of the “We Travel Together” campaign will subsidise 40% of the hotel room rates or airfares, plus a daily e-voucher valued at 600 Baht. Meanwhile, for the “Tour Thiao Thai” stimulus, which is for packaged tours, the government will subsidise 40% of the payment, or up to 5,000 Baht per person.

The Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai Province said, “Chiang Mai is ready to welcome back all travellers to enjoy and explore this beautiful city once again. With the collaboration of the government sector as well as the people of Chiang Mai, we would like to extend a cordial invitation to everyone to come and enjoy the wonderful tourist attractions, enjoy various types of accommodation, while the hygienic and safety measures are also in place.”

Travellers will be allowed entry into Chiang Mai under the conditions that they must be fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 for less than 90 days, or have received a negative test by an RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen test no more than 7 days from the test date. Moreover, they must download the CM-CHANA application and strictly follow the safety measures of the Ministry of Public Health.

Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor for Asia and South Pacific, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, “It’s undeniable that Chiang Mai is well-known for both domestic and international travellers. With the authentic culture, brilliant scenery, wonderful atmosphere, tasty food and lovely people, Chiang Mai has welcomed numbers of travellers from around the world for years.”

TAT would like to remind all travellers to continue with the D-M-H-T-T-A precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19: D – Distancing, M – Mask wearing, H – Handwashing, T – Temperature check, T – Testing for COVID-19, and A – alert application.

La-iad Bungsrithong, president of the Thai Hotels Association’s northern chapter explained to Citylife that she hopes direct international flights will start from November 2021. Many hotels & restaurants have already got SHA certification, which covers domestic tourists. The SHA Plus+ certification (main criteria is 70% of staff vaccinated)  which covers international travelers can be obtained by first contacting the local Tourism Authority of Thailand.
