CMU Students Reception at Consulate of India

Consulate of India in Chiang Mai hosted a reception for the students of newly launched Four-year Degree Course on India at Bharatvidya Division in Faculty of Humanities at Chiang Mai University.
Welcoming the students and faculty, Consul Krishna Chaitanya stated that titled ‘Indian Languages & Culture’, this is a uniquely designed extensive course in Liberal Arts, which also offers papers on science, mathematics, digital technology, life sciences, critical thinking, health and sports, Indian civilization, contemporary Indian advancement in science and technology, and so on. Languages offered as part of the course are Hindi and Sanskrit at present, but the faculty plans to offer other Indian languages in future. Chief Guest was Dean of Humanities CMU Prof Rawee Jansong, and Special Invitees were Head of Bharatvidya Division Dr Seksan Sawangsri, Vishwa Hindi Samman awardee Dr Pattama Sawangsri, and Dr Deepti Sharma and distinguished members from Indian Community.
The evening included a number of songs brilliantly sung by CMU student Sirinapa Titapon in Thai and Hindi, poetry recital by Benyapha Chaisorn, english song by Makorn Khampet, and a spell bounding dance by Thaksina Sonwet. Ashok Rajpal accompanied by instrumentalists Sarawut Chaysingkhum and Sarayut Kanrueang also came up with a number of songs. Complementing the students, Subhashani recited a famous poem by the famous Indian poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Shyam Arora sang a couple of songs from the golden era of Bollywood Film Music. Ranjit Singh, Advisor, India Studies Centre, CMU also congratulated the students and teachers. Catering was provided by Accha Authentic Indian Cuisine.
