The project started on December 15th and its aim was to clear up the image of Chiang Mai as it had become a daily blight on various ring roads each morning to see migrant labourers milling around seeking employment opportunities. In order to end this practice which, according to the office, had a negative effect to Chiang Mai’s image, the office had been offering matching services at City Hall for the past 60 days.

So far 538 labourers and 748 potential employers have registered at the office and a total of 4,508 jobs been found, from as short as one day jobs to longer positions. The average, says the office, is a fifty percent match.

The office also estimates that this has generated 935,240 baht in income. There are still a number of labourers who do not get hired and the office pledges to continue its work to find employment for all.
