CityNews – March 16th, The Irrigation Department has announced that there is a shortage water, but also say that there is enough for Songkran and consumption.
The Royal Irrigation Department of Chiang Mai made the announcement on the 15th of march that there is now only 15% left in all water reserves in Chiang Mai, but confirmed that there is enough water for consumption until early June.
Jansark Limpiti, director of the department, said that Mae Ngat dam now has only 53.25 million cubic metres, far lower than its maximum capacity of 265 million cubic metres.
And for Songkran day, he said that while Mae Ngad’s tight water rationing has meant that only 1.7 million cubic metres of water is released per week, the volume will be increased on April 13th to support the festival. Water from Mae Taeng area has already been used to fill up the moat as of the 9th and 10th of March. The Chiang Mai Municipality will be in charge of making sure that the moat water is safe for use during Songkran.
