Viral Facebook Post Saves a Foreigner Hospitalised After Road Accident

CityNews – An expat hospitalised after a traffic accident is aided by a viral goodwill Facebook post.

A Facebook account named Naruemon Joy Sinthanayothin posted pictures of Tony Mario on March 4th asking for support. She revealed that he is her Spanish tutor who is in his 70s and has no family here. He has been hospitalised at Nakorn Ping Hospital after a recent traffic accident. She stated that his motorcycle does not have the compulsory motor insurance, and he is now facing a medical cost of over 40,000 baht.

The post has gone viral on social media with over 11,000 shares and on today, March 5th, she announced that donations are now closed due to overwhelming support. Total amount raised is 317,685.41 baht which she has paid the hospital 40,000 baht as installment.

Update (March 6th): To date, Tony Mario’s medical bills have come to almost 80,000 baht, both receipts posted onto the original Facebook page. The woman says that she can no longer be responsible for the remaining money and will transfer it to two people who will be working with an unnamed recovery facility where Mario will be spending quite some time. The facility wishes not to share its name as it says that Mario requires rest. The remaining money will be used for all his needs, according to the poster.
