Traffic police gearing up for Songkran (substitution) Holiday

The Chiang Mai Traffic Police has announced some new measures to help alleviate traffic over what is expected to be a very busy long weekend.

  1. There will be alcohol checkpoints and speeding checkpoints across the city over the entire holiday period – you have been warned!
  2. Police ask all motorists, especially those heading to popular out of town destinations, to check traffic reports before travel to avoid long jams. They also urge the public to constantly check their (Thai language) Facebook page for any announcements and updates.
  3. All large vehicles will be banned from Doi Suthep, Doi Kham, Doi Inthanon and Doi Angkhang.
  4. All visitors to Kew Mae Ban Doi Inthanon, Mon Jam, Doi Angkhang, Mae Kampong, Doi Suthep, Warorot Market, Nimmanhaemin, Wualai, Night Bazaar and any of the shopping malls, police urge everyone to study routes, parking availability and traffic flow prior to any visit.
  5. The traffic police will enforce the speed limit and all other road rules.

300 traffic police will be mobilised to oversee the traffic flow and safety across Chiang Mai.
