CityNews – 3rd March 2020, Chiang Mai police arrested Wongtawan ‘Neung’ Chaisri, 32, late last night for theft.

He was found to be in possession of an Apple iPhone, some drug paraphernalia, a 100 US dollar note and a Brazilian bank note. He has been accused of using his motorbike to grab and snatch from tourists in the city. He is also accused of using methamphetamines.

The matter came to light on the 1st March when police were alerted of a grab and run theft along Singharat Road when a Brazilian tourist, 22, had her handbag snatched by a passing motorbike.

Following this incident police used CCTV footage to track the thief and eventually found him to have taken a turn into a dormitory in the city.

When police went to find this man at the dormitory, he acted suspiciously and looked similar to the man caught on CCTV, police therefore decided to make an arrest.

Later, Wongtawan confessed to the crimes and said that he had used up most of the cash he had stolen on drugs. He had scattered some of the goods around town, and police managed to retrieve some of the goods.
