Mae Ping police arrested a 25 year old man yesterday who has allegedly conned at least three young graduates out of money while pretending to be interviewing them for jobs.
Police had previously been alerted to a number of​ 18-25 year old women who say that this man had posted job vacancies on Facebook as well as on online job seeking platforms looking for staff and offering salaries between 10,000-12,000 baht per month.
All applicants were told that they had been offered the job following an interview with this man, which was to start on the 1st August. They were also asked for 400-500 baht each as an insurance processing fee, all of whom paid.
They were told to meet at the venue on the 31st July to clean and prepare it for opening, but found it to be closed. Following attempts to contact the man, three of them went to the police station to file a report.
Following his arrest the man attempted to negotiate a settlement with the women, offering them 1,000 baht each in compensation and in return for not filing charges. The victims, however, discussed the matter and decided to press charges as planned and say that they hope other victims will come forward, as they say that they know of around 20 other victims so far.
The accused has apparently been conducting these types of scams on Facebook for many years.
