CityNews – A meeting to discuss the ‘scar of Doi Suthep’ with the Office of the Prime Minister has been set for Sunday, May 6th.

After a massive rally in Chiang Mai on April 29th, the case gained national and international attention that encouraged the Office of the Prime Minister to take action in a bid to resolve the case.

The Court of Appeal Region 5 judicial residences that were built on land that cuts into Doi Suthep brought attention from locals and environmentalists that claim the project is damaging to the local forests, even if development on the land was made legal through a  long process of legal proceedings before the construction began.

Campaigners against the residences, which have been dubbed the ‘scar of Doi Suthep’, will meet with Suwapan Tanyauwattana, a minister from the Office of the Prime Minister, to discuss the case this Sunday May 6th at City Hall.

The campaigners still maintain their demands that the residences be demolished and the land restored to protected forest land. The campaigners also urge that the implementation of their demands is performed in a way that is mutually beneficial to both parties. They suggest a committee is set up to discuss this issue and work on demolishing the residences and returning the land to the forest.
