CityNews – Police have opened a case against Warm Up Cafe Chiang Mai after an underage teen was found drinking alcohol in the club during a police raid on the venue.
Police patrolled the nimman area checking that pubs and bars were closed after midnight on August 13. The police checked on several bars who have already been closed down and been issued a 5 year alcohol ban. Several other bars were closed for the day the police visited.
After visiting the scheduled bars, the police paid a visit to Warm Up Cafe Chiang Mai and conducted an ID check on customers at the venue.
One male was arrested after his ID identified him as being under 20, the legal minimum age for all clubs and bars in Thailand. There were over 300 customers all over the age of 20 on the day of the raid.
The underage patron and the owner of the club were taken to Phu Ping Ratchaniwet Police Station for interrogation. It was reported that after the arrest a man claimed to be a police officer in high rank called to Phu Ping Ratchaniwet Police Station asked to release the owner of Warm Up Café but the request was denied.
The leading officer of the raid told reporters that the police are currently opening a case against Warm Up Cafe Chiang Mai which may result in a five year ban if supported in the courts.
Twelve places were checked by the police on August 13, where they found 2 underage teens and 4 people did not carry their ID cards in total.
