CityNews – Police from Chang Pueak station have announced to the public to be aware of a gang using road rage to extort money. Reports have come in to the police of a number of 191 calls reporting extortion along the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai road.

According to police, vehicles will demand damages for accidents which they have been part of causing, but will speed away when police are called.

An old grey vehicle is used by two men in their 30s and 40s, one appearing to be from central Thailand while the other speaks northern kam muang. According to the info graphic provided by the police, the victim’s car is coloured grey while the two cars belonging to the gang are red and yellow. The red care will drive very slowly so that the victim will decide to overtake. Once the victim overtakes, the second gang car will follow suit and start honking their horn to pressure the victim to go back into the slow lane. Once they attempt to get back into the slow lane the first gang’s car will speed up and crash into the victim’s car while the second car will speed off. Police warn everyone to simply call the police and to not attempt to negotiate with the scammers.
