This collaboration began in 2008 with WWF-Franch and artist Paulo Grangeon, who handcrafted all 1600 pandas using recycled materials to promote the nearly 17% increase in population of wild giant pandas over the past decade. There are now 1800 giant pandas in the wild, up from 1600 at the inception of this project, thanks to the conservation and promotional efforts of the Chinese government.
The black and white mob is visiting ten locations throughout Thailand between March 4 -19 and will be in Chiang Mai between 3pm – 6pm this Saturday.
All earnings will be donated to WWF-Thailand for the protection of endangered animals, especially the Thai elephant and Bengal tiger.
The original “1600 Pandas” toured France, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, including nearly 100 exhibitions around the world. This year’s “1600 Pandas+” tour featuring “Mom and cub” pandas will make its debut in Thailand in 2016.
