The accident happened on the Tern-Lampang road, where it is believed that the driver, 28-year-old Nikom Duangchuen, fell asleep at the wheel momentarily.

The oil was destined for Lampang, but was all burnt up in the explosion.

Firefighters spent over 30 minutes putting out the blaze.

No other people or vehicles were damaged in the accident, but Nikom was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.

Police are investigating the accident and will decide whether to prosecute Nikom in the next few days.
