CityNews – Questions are being raised on social media concerning the endless construction of the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai Road in Doi Saket district.

A photo of a van covered in dust on the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai Road (highway 118) has gone viral on social media raising questions as to the finish line for the construction project. The dirt road is of great concern for motorists, as there have been many accidents, especially as this is the rainy season, and the area often becomes a bottle neck for traffic. People are also demanding the road to be completed as soon as possible.

According to the Chiang Mai Highway District 2 report, the construction contract begins on March 14th 2017 and ends on 3rd December 2018. The budget for this 9.25 km distance construction is set at 634 million baht, but since the contract is overdue, the contractor has been fined 1.5 million baht per day as of 27th December 2018. The authority has not yet responded with any ideas as to how to hasten the construction.
