CityNews – 5th March 2020, students from International Economics programme (IEP) at Maejo University won first place at a national speech competition organised by the United Nations offices in Thailand.
On February 25th, 2020 a team of students from the International Economics Programme at Maejo University won first place at the student competition on triangular cooperation for sustainable development held at the UN Conference centre in Bangkok. The event was organised by the United Nations Office for South-south Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The event aimed to “promote increased awareness and participation of students and youth in South-south and triangular cooperation for sustainable development”.
The organisers of the event invited several universities in Thailand to register in one of two categories (graduate and undergraduate). For the undergraduate category, teams were asked to prepare a 20 minute presentation giving their views on why it is necessary to use Triangular Cooperation as a modality for sustainable and cooperation development. The team representing Maejo University was integrated by Tunwarat Kaewthong, Apichaya Wattanawanku and Titipong Satsiri. They were under the supervision of Dr. Wanvilai Chulaphan and Dr. Jorge Fidel Barahona.
In the IEP we see ourselves as the “Little Engine That Could”. We try to go beyond the lessons and skills taught in class, and believe that student empowerment is an integral part of developing high quality professionals. We are very proud of our students’ success and will continue to create opportunities for students to participate in these kinds of activities
