CityNews – At 9 a.m. on March 8th, Police Major General Chamnan Ruad-rew, the deputy commander of the 5th Regional Police led his men via helicopters to patrol the Mae Sai border, at which point they spotted a caravan of hill tribe people believed to be working for Colonel Yisay, a well know drug lord.
Two men shot dead by policeAfter a gunfight in Doi Phamee, Baan Thaluang, Mae Sai, six of the drugs mules were shot dead. Police found seven backpacks containing a total of 840,000 Yabaa pills.
The 327th Border Patrol Police and Chiang Rai Police received an intel report the night before about a group of possibly armed drug mules traveling across the border. They contacted Pha Muang Army Taskforce and set up checkpoints.
Police report that 8-10 heavily armed men with backpacks were seen crossing through thick bushes from Myanmar. When they asked the men to stop the group shot at police, says the report. The battle lasted over an hour. The officers found six bodies with seven backpacks with 840,000 Yaba pills. Some of the men in the caravan got away. Police believe the mules were working for Colonel Yisay, a Black Muso leader and drug kingpin with a multi-million baht bounty on his head.
