CityNews – 19 Combodian workers were allegedly ditched by their agent.
On August 19th, police received a report regarding illegal migrant workers from Cambodia. 19 workers were allegedly smuggled through the border by Thai and Cambodian agents who promised to have them work at a longan farm in Chiang Dao. Each person had reportedly paid agents 9,000 baht to get them into Thailand and find them employment. However, they were discarded upon arrival and were eventually forced to seek help from police.
The case is now under investigation as police suspect that this might actually be a scheme by the workers to be sent back to their country without cost.
