Heavy rains will lead to flash floods, Meteorological Dept.

Following heavy rainfall over the past many days, many areas in Mae On sub district have suffered from severe floods. Flash floods have also caused great damage, falling many electricity poles, leading to no electricity in many areas.

Chiang Mai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office’s director, Second Lieutenant Nattapong Thiwikran said that a monsoon trough came through the north this morning creating heavy rainfall. Mudslides and jungle water has created much damage that his office is working to fix – from re connecting electricity to various villagers, clearing roads of fallen trees and debris, and helping villagers in need. He expects all will be back to normal by tonight.

He warns that over the next week there is more heavy rains expected and asks everyone to stay safe.
