Wat Pong Yang Chalerm Prakiet School asks for donations of 400 old tyres to support the foundation of their school building, following heavy rains.
In order to be able to open the school on 1st July, the school has put out a plea for donations.
Following severe storms and heavy rains last week, the school says that the earth around the school building’s foundations has eroded to the point which could become very dangerous.
The school has 200 students, ranging from kindergarten to matayom 6 and is situation in Pong Yang Nok village, near the Mon Jam turnoff. The school building is one storied and there is a separate wooden building for the kindergarten and teachers’ rooms.
The school had previously contacted a contractor to ask for a quotation to fix the building, but the quote was for hundreds of thousands of baht which the school cannot afford. It has therefore decided to use old tyes instead. Cement will be poured on top and in between the tyres, a method used in many mountain-top schools across the northern region.
Each year the school receives a budget from the government, but it is not enough to cover this emergency.
