CityNews – 29th April 2020, a group is hoping to raise 1.2 million baht to build a vegetable garden in the heart of Chiang Mai.

Three rai of land donated by the municipality has been slated to be turned into a vegetable garden, if enough funds are raised. The garden will be managed by multiple community and volunteer groups as will its design and implementation.
Local volunteers will tend to the garden and there will be electricity, water and a building installed as well as being fully equipped with agricultural tools, seeds, chicken and any other components required.

This garden aims to produce enough food to supply 300 families per month, or around 60,000 of produce per year. It will also become a learning centre to offer agricultural and gardening know-hows to the public, expected to be used by 18,250 people per year (based on an assumption of 50 per day).

It can be connected to organic markets and its produce sold at minimum price.

It is hoped that the garden will help generate jobs and income from the communities living along Mae Kha Canal who will turn this urban farm into a network which can expand to other areas. It is also hoped that it will inspire many people to begin to grow their own vegetables at home.

This area will connect with the Sattamankala Gardens by the Sridonchai Bridge across Mae Kha Canal.
