CityNews – Chiang Mai Traffic Police are now using CCTV cameras and increased numbers of checkpoints at major intersections and around the moat to further crack down on people breaking traffic laws.

Routes around the moat which are often subject to heavy traffic are believed to result in greater numbers of traffic offences, resulting in increased surveillance and checkpoint locations in target areas according to Chiang Mai Traffic Police.

Accidents often occur on the Suanprung Gate intersection, Chiang Mai Gate intersection and the Singharach intersection.

As a result, more police will be stationed at these junctions and greater real time surveillance of CCTV will now be implemented.

According to the Land Traffic Act (1979), people who break the law can be fined up to 1,000 baht.
The police advise people to follow traffic laws, especially when driving around the city’s moat, in order to prevent accident from occurring.
