Fire fighters need your help

CityNews – 27th March 2020, reports of a new fire which has sprung up on the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park yesterday has had firefighters working beyond capacity.

Due to high winds and dried timber, the ongoing fire continues to spread, even though there are 400 firefighters on the ground across the mountain range. Steep terrain makes it almost impossible to combat. It is thanks to the volunteer drone enthusiasts, who have provided some of the most extraordinary pictures currently circulating of the fires, who have managed to help firefighters find the directions of the fire spread in real time.

The Doi Kham Temple is looking quite vulnerable now and teams are converging to protect it from any spread of the fire.

There is currently a team of 60 firefighters on this one spot, taking shifts around the clock.

It is heartening that the Chiang Mai community has rallied behind these brave fire fighters, with masses of donated goods being delivered daily, from dried food to equipment and masks. They are, however, still in great need of muscle pain ointments, N95 masks and energy drinks, we are told. Anyone interested in donating goods, volunteering to deliver goods or bringing drones to help spot fires, please contact the Doi Suthep National Park Coordinator, Khun Oye, at 084 7755765.
