Earlier this week there was news of Sirinporn ‘Lin’ Maneewan, 51 and her 15 year old son, who were about to embark on a 15 day Honda Wave bike ride from Phang Ngan to Nam Phrae, Hang Dong, Chiang Mai, as they were facing starvation.
Lin had moved to Phang Ngan many years ago to become a masseuse, but when the COVID-19 virus hit, she lost her job and soon her apartment, for which she couldn’t pay. With no means of earning a living, she decided to pack up her goods, bought some food and fixed her bike up with her last savings, for the long ride home.
However, on the 12th May, she spoke to reporters when she reached the Phang Nga border checkpoint that she had heard from the governor of Chiang Rai, who had apparently heard of her plight, and he had offered to send a bus to pick her up.
The good news is that she did indeed meet up with a double decker bus which transported her and her son and their bike to Bangkok, where she will be taking another bus up north, all at the personal expense of the governor of Chiang Rai.
The governor of Chiang Rai last week also paid for the return home of a Chiang Rai citizen from the south. While this woman is from Chiang Mai, and not Chiang Rai, he has kindly offered to pay for her entire passage home.
