The mountainous north can be surprisingly cold from November to January. Temperatures can drop down to close to the freezing point. This can prove especially difficult and dangerous for those unable to afford to buy proper winter clothing.

Five years ago, the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) started its annual Children’s Winter Clothing Appeal to provide warm clothes for hill tribe and migrant children. In last year’s appeal, an estimated 20,000 pounds of clothing was donated and distributed to children and youth in need.

On this October 15th, CMIRC began its 6th annual clothing drive.

Collection boxes have been placed at:

• Rimping – Meechok Plaza / Promenada / Nawarat Bridge / Nim City / Mae Hia / Kad Farang / Maya

• Chiang Mai International School (CMIS)

• Unity Concord International School (UCIS)

• Lanna International School (LIST) – Airport & North Hill

• Chiang Mai University Demonstration School (Satit CMU)

• Makro Hang Dong

• Makro Superhighway

• Makro Mae Rim

• HomePro Hang Dong

• HomePro Sansai @ Rimping

What the hill tribe children need:

• Warm coats, jackets

• Pullovers / sweatshirts / cardigans

• Long-sleeve shirts and T-shirts

• Long pants, leggings, and jeans

• Scarves

• Caps

• Gloves

• Socks (for school too) / warm tights

• Closed-toe shoes and sneakers; formal school shoes

• Blankets

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increased emphasis on donated clothing cleanliness this year. Please wash the clothes if necessary and pack them in plastic bags before dropping them off. Always wear a mask and use a hand sanitizer before and after drop-offs.

This year’s clothing appeal will end on December 1st. CMIRC is unable to provide for pickups from your home. For more about the clothing appeal, please visit www.cmirotary.org/post/winter-clothing-appeal-2021.

An advance “Thank You” from the children who will benefit from your generosity.
