Camp selling elephant manure to feed elephants

Mae Taeng Elephant Camp has been hit hard by the economic depression. It feeds its 52 elephants between 500-1,000 baht worth of food each day as well as having to support medical and mahout personnel, said a representative of the camp to CityNews.

The camp is generating income by selling elephant manure to fertiliser companies and farmers, it says. The camp has also been piling up elephant manure for years, which makes the manure of particularly good quality, and that is also being sold to raise money.

The camp has said that sales are so healthy they are having to keep up with demand, with each sack of manure selling for 50 baht. If any farmers are interested, the camp asks you to call 089-7555451.
