CityNews – An interview with Police Lieutenant Colonel Supot Suwan provided further details related to an abandoned infant that was rescued in Mae Rim on June 8th.
According to the Police Lieutenant Colonel, the mother was identified as Au Chanta. She identified the father as Kam, a Shan man, and explained that he abandoned her and the child while she was 2-3 months pregnant. Au was unemployed and had no money to support the child.
Au has been sentenced to six months in jail and required to pay a fine of 3,000 baht. However, this punishment is currently being suspended.
The infant was admitted to Nakornping Hospital for immediate first aid, and was then taken to Vienping Children’s Home. The Chiang Mai Office of Social Development and Human Security will continue to handle the matter.
