Various authorities from the Chiang Mai Muang District and municipality inspected a number of shops selling fireworks today.

According to the district chief, the spot checking is to ensure safety for residents and tourists and to give them confidence to go out and enjoy the festival safely.

The quality of fireworks were inspected, and any fireworks deemed too dangerous have been banned.

There will be no pop-up pavement stalls selling fireworks this year, said officials, who say that they will be patrolling all areas for safety and compliance to the law over the festival period.

If anyone plays with illegal fireworks, or uses them in an irresponsible manner, they face a prison term of up to one month and/or a 1,000 baht fine.
