Arrest Warrant Issued For Cyclist Murder Driver, Insurance Pays Bail

CityNews – Following the accident that killed three cyclists last week, police have formally issued an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Phatchuda Chairuean.

The arrest warrant includes charges of careless driving causing death, causing a traffic collision causing injuries and drink driving.

Phatchuda is currently being treated in hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

However, when the arrest warrant was issued, her insurance company immediately confirmed they will cover the bail costs at 300,000 baht.

According to official police reports, the girl was drinking at a bar in downtown Chiang Mai until 3am.

Police Colonel Teerapon Inthornlibrong, the officer behind the case, told the press that there will be an examination into what police in that area were doing and why the bar was still open.

Police Major General Montree Sambunnanon of Chiang Mai Provincial Police also mentioned that police have set up more alcohol checkpoints to help prevent drink driving.

On the same day as the warrant being issued, Chiang Mai Governor, Suriya Prasatbandit, gave a vase of flowers on behalf of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to Acting Sub Lt. Supon Tasing and Pongsak Ponsing, who were severely injured from in the accident.

They are currently recovering in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, but are in a stable condition.
