CityNews – Animation professors from Chiang Mai University College of Arts, Media and Technology (CAMT) have developed an Android navigation app for walking and cycling routes in the Old City. The app also shows the city back in Lanna Era.
CAMT Animation Professors Kolawat Klainat, Theparit Sinthamrong and Khongtat Tongphun combined their years of expertise in teaching and developing 3D augmented reality to create a virtual Old City in Lanna Era (1296-1558 AD) merged with the early 1900s Chiang Mai.
They collected their data from books, historians to create software with frame rate greater or equal to 22 frames per second. The main virtual landmarks included Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Sing, Three King Monument, Chiang Mai Police Station, Post Office and the Terracotta. As an experiment they added a navigational feature so tourists can learn more about Chiang Mai history and architecture.
