CityNews – 1st March 2020, various activist groups asks the public to revive the activity of tying of green ribbons around trees in protest the controversial construction of housing for the Region 5 Appeals Court.

Various groups met up at Tha Pae Gate this morning, led by Teerasak Rubsuwan, representative of the Network to Ask for Doi Suthep Land Return, to keep the pressure up on the government and all involved to have the deeply controversial housing estate demolished and removed. Following the announcement last year that the project would be demolished, following widespread public protest, the group says that nothing has actually been done. The group and supporters went around the moat this morning to tie green ribbons around trees as a symbol of protest and to keep the matter in public consciousness. According to Theerasak, this matter should have been resolved two years ago, and the group will be organising a large scale gathering for the 29th April to keep the pressure on the courts.

The group is demanding answers to three questions; 1. When will the construction of the new offices and housing begin in Chiang Rai, as promised; 2. When will the land be returned to its natural state, as promised; and 3. Where has the nine million baht budget which has been allocated to restore the land, as promised, gone?

The event was peaceful.
