CityNews – The 75th Anniversary of Thailand’s Zoos, as well as the 37th Anniversary of Chiang Mai Zoo, took place on the 15th November. The Chiang Mai Governor Wichian Puttiwinyu was the president of the event.

The celebration included the reopening of the African zone after its renovations. Some new animals in the savannah-like field are the scimitar oryx from Northern Africa (which is extinct in the wild), the eland antelope from East and Southern Africa, and the waterbuck from sub-Saharan Africa. Chiang Mai Zoo is already home to other African animals such as giraffe, ostrich, zebra, and hippopotamus.

The zoo hopes that the renovation will help visitors “feel like they are in Africa”.
