CityNews – Due to the ongoing protests in Bangkok and the disruption to many government office, Chiang Mai has now opened an office for those needing to apply for passports.

Since the 13th January, when this office opened, up to 500 people per day have been standing in queues to apply for passports. However, there is a limit to the Chiang Mai’s office ability to issue passports which has been capped at only 200 per day. Those who apply will receive their passports by mail within 30 days. Because of the demand greatly outweighing the quota of supply, queues have started at 4 a.m. and there have already been many reported incidents of queue barging and small skirmishes.

It is therefore advised that those whose passports are about to expire soon need to get there early and prepare to return again and again until they can get their queue numbers.
