13 Malaysian Tourists Amongst 14 Dead in Fatal Bus Crash

CityNews – On the morning of December 20th, a tour bus transporting 21 tourists and two guides hit a car and a pickup truck and ran off the road, falling into a trough around 3 metres deep, in Ban Pang Faen of Doi Saket’s Pa Miang sub-district.

The tour bus of Veerapan Tour and Travel Limited Partnership was transporting 21 Malaysian Chinese tourists and two guides (one is Thai and the other is Malaysian) from Chiang Rai, headed to Chiang Mai.

11 people died at the scene and three others later died in the hospital.

The bus driver, Somporn Bualuang, 58, had minor injuries.

Later in the afternoon, Chiang Mai Governor Prawin Chamniprasart and institutes involved including Chiang Mai Provincial Land Transport Office went to inspect the scene and visit victims in hospitals.

UPDATE –
The bodies of the 13 Malaysian Chinese tourists who died in the accident have now been sent home by plane, along with their relatives. The body of the Thai Guide, Pattra Promchaichom, was also sent back to her hometown in Phayao province.

Chiang Mai’s Provincial Land Transport Office has withdrawn the company’s permits.
