CityNews – Chiang Mai Zoo is refurbishing its Islamic prayer rooms ahead of an expected increase in the number of Muslim visitors, a report said today.

Zoo director Karnchai Saenchaiwong said there will be two prayer rooms – one for women and one for men – according to the National News Bureau of Thailand. White marble has been laid on floors and walls, air conditioners will soon be installed, and the surrounding area is also being refurbished to provide greater comfort.

The number of Muslim tourists visiting Thailand from neighbouring countries is expected to increase with the implementation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Economic Community next year.
