To reduce the water level and prevent floods, Chiang Mai’s Regional Irrigation Office opened five out of six floodgates at the Mae Ping dam.

Fang District Office evacuated residents from at-risk areas and set a working group to monitor the situation. It warned residents to be aware of the threat from floods.

Authorities also warned of the risk of landslides in Mae Rim’s Pong Yang, Mae Rim, Huay Sai and Saluang sub-districts.

The Yom River, which flows through Phrae province, has already overflowed its banks. Flooding and a landslide were reported in Chiang Rai province on Wednesday.

The Northern Meteorological Center said thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in some areas of the north this weekend.
