CityNews – Chiang Mai governor Suriya Prasartbandit yesterday presided over the opening of a five-day trade fair offering discounted goods.

The ‘Blue Flag’ fair is organised by the Department of Internal Trade, which aims to help residents who are struggling with the rising cost of living.
It is being held in the grounds of Chiang Mai Provincial Hall, where around 300 booths are offering consumer goods, agricultural and industrial products from Chiang Mai and neighbouring provinces, local authorities say.
The prices are 20 to 40 per cent lower than the usual market price, with goods such as chicken eggs for sale at 70 baht per tray (reduced from the usual price of 100 baht), vegetable oil at 28 baht per bottle (normally 42 baht), and pure refined sugar at 17 baht per kilogramme (normally 24 baht).
The fair also includes live performances from singers and folk musicians. Governor Suriya said it would stimulate the local economy, allow entrepreneurs to release their goods to the market, and help those on low incomes. The fair continues until October 10, from 9am to 9pm.
