Jaturon Chaiyakham, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the ministry will expedite the loosening of restrictions on foreigners entering Thailand in an effort to boost tourism.

Whereas in the past foreign tourists were given free visas for 30 days when entering the kingdom, the ministry will increase the number to 45 days. This, he said, was to compensate for the 14 days required to quarantine. A total of 56 countries are eligible for this extension.

He expects the numbers of tourists to rise from the current 10,000 per month to 20,000 per month.
