CityNews – Chiang Mai police are investigating the death of a man who apparently hanged himself after scrawling a suicide note on a wall claiming he was a hired assassin.

The body was found in a rented room in Prapokklao Road Soi 4 on Sunday morning, and was later identified as that of Ai Chaoleesaen, 63, from Chiang Rai. Police believe he hanged himself from a rafter.

The message on the wall read: “Police, I’m a hired killer. I have escaped [arrest] for 18 years. My wife, son and sister don’t accept me. Dying today or in the future doesn’t matter. All Buddha amulets, I give to my son. Don’t take them.”

Ai’s sister told police that he was a loner who had rented the room for three or four months. It is believed that he moved in after quarrelling with his wife. Neighbours had forced entry to the room after hearing a strange sound and noticing that there was no light.

Police are treating the death as suicide, and are investigating whether Ai really was an assassin as he claimed and, if so, how many people he killed.
