Successful Crack Down on Minor Traffic Offences

CityNews – Chiang Mai police have issued 533 fines in less than a week following a crackdown on minor traffic offences at intersections.The penalties had been issued at junctions around the city since July 17, police said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Last week, national traffic police issued new guidelines for enforcing stricter rules, and announced a list of around 200 junctions nationwide that would be strictly regulated.
The three junctions targeted in Chiang Mai are the Airport Intersection, the Rim Kum Intersection and the San Dek Intersection.
The most common offence has been stopping beyond the crossing lines at a junction, with 466 cases since last Thursday, police said. There were also 39 cases of overtaking in prohibited areas, seven cases of blocking intersections, 13 cases of driving the wrong way down a main road and eight cases of drivers using fake licence plates.
The Commander of Chiang Mai’s provincial police force said that they will continue to strictly enforce the rules.
