CityNews – Five men – two Thai nationals and three Chinese citizens – have been arrested on suspicion of conducting online arms deals.  The men are thought to be part of a gang who smuggle arms from Thailand into China.

Investigators seized a weapons haul in the Nong Prue area of Chonburi, which included AK-47 assault rifles, hand grenades, pistols and a selection of bullets. The gang’s activities are said to be unrelated to the recent political unrest in the Kingdom, and the parties involved are not politically motivated or connected in any way.

Pol Gen Watcharapol stated “Arms smuggling and their trade online have increased and responsible units such as the Technology Crime Suppression Division must deal with this illegal activity…” while Pol Lt Gen Sakda Chuenpakdi, Acting Chief of the Bureau for Immigration, claimed an additional four men have been arrested in China.

The gang have been claimed to be working in Thailand for more than a year, and have members who are still teenagers.
