Plans announced to Push Nimman and Huay Kaew to be Innovative Economic Hub

CityNews – The governor of Chiang Mai announced the latest plan to push Nimmanhaemin and Huay Kaew Road to be an innovative economic hub.

At a conference held on August 4th led by Supachai Iamsuwan, the governor of Chiang Mai, a project to push Nimmanhaemin and Hauy Kaew Road to be an innovative economic hub was announced. The plan aims to pursue an “area-based collaborative research of smart city (SG-ABC)” to be carried out by The Thailand Research Fund, the Thai Association for Town Planning, The Thai Real Estate Association, and local public and private sectors in Chiang Mai.

Nimmanhaemin and Huay Kaew Roads, on which Chiang Mai University is located, will be strategised under the Smart Growth Principles and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design For Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) in compliance with the smart city concept.

The development of these two pilot areas will concentrate on healthy environment with effective transportation creating modernity and safety environment. Therefore, the governor of Chiang Mai stated, budgets will be allocated to burying wires and electrical cables underground, improving the area’s visuals, building and maintaining footpaths and the installation of a CCTV system.

Within a year, the plan is to be divided into four phases: first is to train for better understanding in Smart Growth; develop a strategy; hold public discussions and develop a framework; promoting infrastructure and economic investment; and evaluation.
