CityNews – More than 200 students who failed to receive visas after paying 40,000 baht each to study in Taiwan have filed a complaint with Chiang Mai governor Suriya Prasartbandit.

The students and their parents say they paid money last year to an organisation called the Taiwan Education Foundation, which promised to arrange the visas as part of a student exchange programme.
However, the foundation did not apply for the visas as promised, meaning the 230 students from across northern Thailand had to cancel their trips.
The project was coordinated by local education authorities, and small group of around 10 parents protested at Chiang Mai Provincial Hall on Tuesday. They were following up after lodging the complaint with the governor last month.
The group said they wanted the money, totalling 10 million baht, returned to them and they wanted help for the students who have missed out on a year of university. They also wanted the local education office, which collected the money, to take responsibility for the problem.
Governor Suriya said last month that the victims will all get their money back in full.
