Another 46 people were injured by fireworks from November 3-9, according to the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office. And 652 people were injured in other incidents, such as falls and fighting. Most accidents occurred in Muang district and on November 6.

Tens of thousands of locals and tourists took part in last week’s celebrations. The festival of Loy Krathong is celebrated across Thailand in early November by people floating krathong – decorated baskets – on rivers. It coincides with the northern Thai festival of Yi Peng, which is celebrated by people launching Lanna-style sky lanterns.
