CityNews – A Chiang Rai man was yesterday given a three-month suspended jail term and a fine of 5,000 baht for organising an anti-coup protest in a McDonald’s restaurant, reports said.

Sarawut Kulmaturapot, a local red-shirt supporter, was charged with defying an order of the junta by organizing an anti-coup event at a McDonald’s restaurant in a mall in Chiang Rai on May 25, the same day protesters gathered at a McDonald’s branch in Bangkok, Prachathai reported. He pleaded guilty at the military court in northern Chiang Rai province, and the jail term was suspended for one year.
Sarawut was not arrested at the scene, but seven other protesters were and they now also face trial in a military court, the report said.
