Junta Gives Green Light to Bt380 Billion Rail Project

The military government has approved a high-speed train project that would cut the journey time from Chiang Mai to Bangkok to just three hours.

The service is expected to begin in 2026, with trips costing around 1,000 baht per person, the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) reported today. A high-speed train service from Bangkok to Phitsanulok is expected to start in 2024.

The budget for construction and land expropriation is estimated at 380 billion baht, NNT said.
