CityNews – Burma’s first low-cost airline, Golden Myanmar Airlines (GMA), will begin direct flights from Yangon to Chiang Mai next month.

From September 23, flights from Chiang Mai international airport will depart for Yangon every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, marketing executive Ko John Htut said. Flights will cost around 1,800 baht one way.

GMA will use its newly acquired ATR-72 propeller aircraft, which can seat 72 passengers, for the journey.

Domestic routes will also be planned for visitors to Yangon who wish to visit other Burmese cities such as Bagan or Mandalay.

Bangkok Airways already flies from Chiang Mai to Yangon and Mandalay. Air Bagan, another mostly domestic Burmese airline, also flies to Chiang Mai from Yangon.
