CityNews – Chiang Dao residents have complained to local authorities about plagues of flies that they say are both a nuisance and a health concern.

The problem started last week and is said to be worse in restaurants and food shops, where the flies can often be seen all day long.

At a 7-Eleven store in a PTT petrol station, manager Rapeeporn Panthafan showed reporters the flies buzzing around the pastries. Staff tired of swatting them away, and finally trapped them by coating sheets of paper with glue and putting them around the shop.

At Chiang Dao district’s Department of Land, staff said they were annoyed with the flies buzzing around them when they eat or go to the toilet. If they are careless, they said, the flies will fly into their mouths.

Local police stations and municipal offices have also been affected by the flies, bringing fears that they will spread diseases.

Chiang Dao’s Public Health Office has warned residents to be aware of the dangers, and officers are now trying to figure out where the flies came from and how they can get rid of them.
